I've still only played this as a 2-player game with my wife, but it's easy to impute how much better and enjoyable it would be with more. It's fine for 2, but the loss of information with so few players is a definite drawback, even when the altered 2-player rules are taken into account. Still, great fun, and I look forward to playing with the full complement of players. If you like games that are somewhat competitive, and about communication (think Code Names) then you'll probably like this one, too. It's got lots of cards so it won't get old and a few different ways to make it more or less challenging. Got this so my husband and I can play together and with friends.A very interesting variant on the Codenames find the right word that pits Aliens v. Egyptians that adds the layers of language teaching, this is a deeper but more rewarding game. If you like Codenames I think you'll love First ContactFun game! If you like aliens you'll love this game. Not super easy to learn however if you read the rules you should catch on rather quicklyThe theme of the game is that you meet aliens and try to break the language barrier with them so you can communicate. It's really confusing and I didn't enjoy it at all. I have friends who play it all the time and love it. Here's what I recall from it.Everyone is given a card with words on it and symbols that represent the words. The aliens symbols vary while the human symbols are the same. Basically humans are selecting pictures to represent a secret word. Then the aliens are trying to guess what the word was by using heiroglyphs. Then the humans have to correlate the heiroglyph to a word on their card. If the aliens match a picture to the word, or the humans - - whichever??? Then both score a point. The first alien to reach three points wins, and the first human to reach five? points wins.My head hurts writing this review. I just didn't enjoy the game. It was too thinky for me.I think this game would be terrific for any group of 4-7 people ages middle school and up. The instructions seem complicated, but a lot of that is just set-up. Once you work through a couple rounds, the play runs smoothly and is not confusing at all. My husband and I played with our adult children this weekend and had a super time. We enjoyed the thought processes, especially the different perspectives of the "human" and "alien" teams. I think that play could run pretty quickly if desired, but we were happy to take our time and chat and snack as we took turns. Thank you for a lovely afternoon. BTW, as a retired school-teacher, I would have loved to share this with middle school and high school students. There is a nice element of competition, with a winner on each team, but each player's turn informs all the participants on the way to success. There's very little "waiting your turn" time, because you need to take notes and interpret the action from everyone else's turn, too. Also, this is a great game for multiple ages to play on an even field--logic is the key.
